Creating and sharing quick short videos

In my job, I record lots of videos. And I mean LOTS of videos!

These are very short videos that are either to communicate information to my coworkers, to external colleagues or to the world. No matter what needs to be communicated, video just makes it easier to communicate it easily and swiftly.

I have been a devout user of TechSmith’s Camtasia product for a very long time – more than 15 years actually. Camtasia is a great product which lets you create beautiful videos and edit the video content in a very versatile editing environment.

However, in the last couple of years, I have been finding myself with a need to create quick videos. When the intention of the video becomes more about quick communication and instruction rather than great production, then the needless formalities of Camtasia fall apart. The need that I had that was not being met with Camtasia unfortunately. I needed a quick way to record the videos and share them through any mechanism such as email, instant message etc.

There are quite a few tools out there that let you accomplish this. The one that I went with is called Loom.

Loom is a Chrome extension. You can easily create videos using Loom and share them just as quickly after you create them. Since this article is about how you can communicate a large amount of information using video instead of words, I created a quick video to show you how Loom works. Best wishes on your video journey!
